Book Preface: “What is this book? The title may lead you to believe that it is a collection of disparate works created by two strangers of different generations, living completely different lives in different states with different outlooks on the world. But a more delicate examination reveals too many similarities, too many coincidences, too many overlapping themes for this to be an accident—perhaps fate? Or god? Or Drugs? Or a capitalist countercultural zeitgeist, yeah, that’s it, let’s blame it on rock’n’roll. Whiskey, women, and song are enough to bring two strangers together in a bar for the night, why not across the threshold of space and time. Action at a distance, or the explanation of the unexplainable movement of particles in space. What brought Alex and Preston together was the crosswinds of the internet and when they collided, they saw their respective art forms as decent dance partners. This book is not an anthology, but it does look back in time. With drawings from Preston’s autobiographical sketchbooks paired with poems written by Alex from 2007-2020, their artistic movements synchronized here down to the year, month and possibly even the day that these works were created worlds apart. Why, you might ask? Well, in the age of COVID-19 we are all taking stock, its only natural to look up from the barstool at a quarter to last call to survey the room.”
